Contract Services is pleased to announce the launch of a new online course regarding Identifying and Reporting Child Abuse and Neglect (“RCAN” for short).
What does the RCAN course cover?
California law requires certain people to report known or reasonably suspected child abuse or neglect. The RCAN course is designed to provide an overview for those individuals working in film and television production who, depending on their job duties, may be required to identify and report suspected child abuse and neglect. This course is online and should take less than an hour to complete.
Who is required to complete the RCAN course?
Industry professionals employed under the IATSE Local #80 (First Aid) Agreement are required to complete the RCAN course as a condition of obtaining placement on the Industry Experience Roster (IER), and Studio Teachers employed under the IATSE Local #884 Agreement are required to complete the RCAN course as a condition of obtaining placement on the Teachers Availability List (TAL) and Dual Credential Substitute List (DCSL). Those individuals already on the IER or TAL/DCSL will be given a deadline to complete the course.
Additionally, a Producer may require employees employed in the following classifications to complete the RCAN course during working hours:
- Local #600 (Camera) Classifications: Camera Operator, Still Photographer, Portrait Photographer
- Local #600 (Publicists) Classifications: All Publicists
- Local #695 Classifications: All classifications
- Local #705 Classifications: All classifications
- Local #706 Classifications: Hairstylist Journeyman, Hair Stylist Trainee, Make-up Artist Journeyman, Make-up Artist Trainee
- Local #871 Amendment Agreement: Production Office Coordinators and Assistant Production Office Coordinators.
To complete the course, eligible Industry Professionals should log into their Contract Services Portal Account at portal.csatf.org.
Finally, note that employees on a DGA Qualification List who have already completed their required Safety Training will also have access to the RCAN course through their Contract Services Portal Account (similar to how these employees access other Contract Services training).
