On Sunday, January 14th, Local 80 was privileged to host 2-time Academy Award-Winning cinematographer Sir Roger Deakins along with his wife and creative partner, James Deakins at our stage. This event was organized as part of the Local 80 Safety and Training Committee’s “Furthering Education” series of events.
This event was conceived and organized by Safety and Training Committee member, Local 80 Executive Board member, and Best Boy grip Philip Collins. He was inspired by the positive reception of his previous “AI in Film” panel discussion, and felt a conversation with esteemed director of photography Roger Deakins would have a similar level of appeal.
These events benefit the members of Local 80 and the wider film community in Los Angeles by bringing workers together to explore, learn, and engage with each other in areas of common interest.
Special thanks to the volunteers who helped make this event a success and extended the hospitality of Local 80 to our guests (Craig Lerner, Nick Kane, Max Spruill, Annette Hunter, Brandy Tannahill, and Becky Rossiter).
Thanks as well to the Safety and Training Committee Event Sponsors Leonard/Chapman and Quixote.
